Salary Range: $30,000.00 To $37,000.00 Annually

Position Profile
The School Based Counselor (SBC) provides (1) early intervention and counseling services to OCS students, (2) case management for student behavioral and academic plans, (3) collaborative work with faculty and staff to address needs of students and (4) provide assistance with crisis services when needed.
General Responsibilities

SERVICES TO STUDENTS:

  • Strategically being present with students to intentionally build trust and relationship for therapeutic opportunities
  • Identify students in need of behavioral, social or emotional support and provide assessment, intervention, within a Biblical Worldview and if necessary referrals to external treatment services.
    • Intervention is providing tier 1, 2, 3 social/emotional strategies, behavioral, social or emotional planning for students in need.
  • Provide individual counseling and case management services for students and families in need, including family collaboration, coordination of care with external mental health supports and connectivity with community resources within a Biblical Worldview.
    • Case management involves therapeutic planning, implementation of strategies and managing clinical documentation.
    • Length of therapeutic services varies according to student/family need
  • Maintain quality and detailed clinical documentation/paperwork.
  • Provide crisis response counseling both impromptu or planned.
  • Assist Academic support staff in collaborative behavior, social or emotional management strategies.
  • Work with identified and eligible individual students who are “at risk” due to academic, social, emotional and/or behavioral issues, including conflicts with others at school
  • Develops relationships, interventions and support to the at-risk student population
  • Reviews academic and behavior goals and makes adjustments as needed

SERVICES TO FACULTY:

  • Assist teachers with behavior, social or emotional management strategies as requested.
  • Consult with teachers about building classroom connections and the role of noncognitive factors in student success as requested.
  • Consult with the School Principals to identify and resolve student issues, needs and problems as requested.

SERVICES TO SCHOOL:

  • Create and maintain a Post-crisis intervention plan and team.
  • Work with the Crisis Management Team when necessary.
  • Meet with Direct Report monthly for progress review.
Administration
  • Reports to the Secondary Principal
Personal Characteristics and Skills of Applicant
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills,
  • Excellent relationship building skills including the ability to interact effectively with school staff, parents, students, volunteers, service providers and other team members.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, integrity and knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and to effectively convey such information to others.
  • Functional computer skills: electronic charting, email (Google) and word processing (Google).
  • Well developed knowledge base on the needs/issues of children and families.
  • Proficient in numerous clinical interventions
Qualifications
  • Bachelors required, Master’s Degree (preferred) in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field
  • Training and experience in conflict resolution preferred
  • Experience in working with adolescents required
  • Ability to motivate non-traditional learners
  • Ability to act as a role model
  • Demonstrates skill and sensitivity in working with all members of the school community
