Job summary

Amergis is seeking two full-time Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) to support elementary students in a Phoenix, AZ school setting. The role involves 1:1 communication support for deaf or hard-of-hearing students, translating between ASL and spoken English in the classroom.

Ideal candidates will have ASL proficiency, appropriate interpreting credentials, and compliance with state and federal requirements. The position is 37.5 hours per week, $40 per hour, on a 10-month contract, with start date

Pay Rate: $40.00/hour Full-Time | 37.5 Hours/Week | 10-Month Contract Start Date: August 31, 2026

A school district in the Phoenix, AZ area is seeking 2 Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) to support elementary-aged students in a school setting. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide 1:1 communication support for deaf or hard-of-hearing students in a general education classroom environment.

Position Responsibilities
  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa

  • Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers

  • Support student participation in classroom instruction, activities, and discussions

  • Maintain professional standards and confidentiality within the educational setting

Minimum Requirements

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trained professional who facilitates communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within an educational setting. Often, American Sign Language (ASL) is used to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa, which ensures students have accommodations to classroom instruction, activities and learning discussions.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language

  • Associates degree or Bachelors degree in interpreting, deaf studies or related field, preferred

  • State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable)

  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)

  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification ( as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
