Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa
Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers
Support student participation in classroom instruction, activities, and discussions
Maintain professional standards and confidentiality within the educational setting
? Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
? Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or related field preferred
? EIPA, RID Certification, or State Interpreter Certification (as applicable)
? Current CPR certification (if required)
? Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
? Must be at least 18 years of age

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trained professional who facilitates communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within an educational setting. Often, American Sign Language (ASL) is used to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa, which ensures students have accommodations to classroom instruction, activities and learning discussions.
Proficiency in American Sign Language
Associates degree or Bachelors degree in interpreting, deaf studies or related field, preferred
State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable)
Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification ( as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age
