Job summary

Amergis is seeking an Educational Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and school staff. The interpreter will render spoken language into ASL and vice versa to ensure access to classroom instruction and activities.

Minimum requirements include ASL proficiency, an associate or bachelor’s degree in interpreting or a related field, and applicable professional certifications (State Board Initial Certificate, EIPA, RID).

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language mandatory.
• Degree in interpreting or related field preferred.
• State Board Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate as applicable.
• EIPA certificate as applicable per state requirements.

Job description

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trained professional who facilities communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others within an educational setting. Often, American Sign Language (ASL) is used to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa, which ensures students have accommodations to classroom instruction, activities and learning discussions.

Minimum Requirements:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language

• Associates degree or Bachelors degree in interpreting, deaf studies or related field, preferred

• State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable)

• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)

• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification ( as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)

• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

• Current CPR if applicable

• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
