Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs is seeking a School Security Officer to provide a visible presence, develop safety procedures, and train staff across Pocahontas County schools. The role includes patrols, crowd control, and emergency response coordination to protect students and staff.

The ideal candidate has a law enforcement background, is a credible role model, and can communicate effectively with students, staff, and police. Health insurance and a stable school calendar are included.

Qualifications

• Retired or former law enforcement with recent service; high school graduate or equivalent.
• Background check completed; advanced training in school resource officer setting preferred.
• First aid/CPR/AED, Narcan certification preferred.
• Ability to counsel and interact with pre-k–12th grade students.
• Moral and ethical role model; ability to qualify annually for firearms.
• Ability to operate and communicate with police radio.

Responsibilities

• Develop safety procedures for threats and conduct drills with students and staff.
• Patrol school grounds and monitor for suspicious activity.
• Supervise detectors at events and direct traffic as needed.
• Protect school and students and assist in medical emergencies.
• Maintain positive relationships with students and counselors.
• Refer students/families to appropriate agencies as needed.
• Assist in investigations and relay information to law enforcement.
• Provide security at school events and serve as liaison with police.
