Position Overview

The School Security Officer, under the supervision of the Dean of Students, is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Bishop Kelley High School’s students, employees, parents, guests, and property. This role provides a visible security presence through regular patrols of campus buildings, surrounding grounds, and parking areas to deter unauthorized access, prevent property damage, and support a safe and orderly school environment. The position performs related duties as assigned in support of overall campus security operations.

Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Catholic values by modeling integrity, respect, compassion, and ethical conduct consistent with the mission of the school, and actively promote a safe, faith-centered learning environment.
  • Serve as a member of the school’s crisis response team, assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of emergency preparedness plans, and responding effectively to critical incidents.
  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors while maintaining a visible presence on campus to foster trust, deter misconduct, and ensure compliance with school policies as well as local and state laws.
  • Conduct routine and random patrols of campus buildings, grounds, parking areas, restrooms, and perimeter to monitor safety, identify security risks, and deter unauthorized or unsafe activity.
  • Inspect and secure all exterior doors and access points, ensuring proper functionality of locks, alarms, and security systems, and reporting any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Provide immediate response and assistance during emergencies, including medical incidents, fires, severe weather, accidents, or security threats, following established protocols to protect life and property.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with members of the school community regarding campus rules, safety procedures, and behavioral expectations, both verbally and in writing when required.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency services, serving as a liaison to coordinate responses, share information, and support community safety initiatives.
  • Work cooperatively with school administration, staff, and visitors to maintain a secure environment while ensuring a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.
  • Maintain required certifications and physical readiness standards, including training in defensive tactics, first aid/CPR, emergency response, and firearms (if applicable).
  • Operate and monitor security systems and equipment, including video surveillance, alarm systems, radios, access control systems, and other technology used to support campus safety.
  • De‑escalate conflicts and manage disruptive situations, using sound judgment and appropriate intervention techniques; apply reasonable force only when necessary and in accordance with policy and training.
  • Complete incident reports and documentation in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall safety, security, and mission of the school.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods, often for the majority of a work shift.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergencies, including running, climbing stairs, or physically assisting individuals.
  • Ability to operate communication devices, security systems, and safety equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Council of Law Enforcement Education and Training Firearm qualified
  • Oklahoma Driver’s License Class D
  • CLEET certified with a Basic or Advanced School Resource Officer certification preferred.
