Job summary

The Episcopal School of Dallas, Inc is seeking a Campus Security Officer to help ensure a safe campus for students, staff, and visitors. The role requires patrolling, monitoring CCTV and alarms, and responding to emergencies in a professional manner.

You will unlock and secure entrances, assist with traffic flow during peak times and events, and maintain detailed logs. Strong communication, rapid decision-making, and English proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

  • Requires Texas DPS PSB Level II non‑commissioned security officer license.
  • High school diploma or GED with at least six months security/military/enforcement experience or training.
  • Effective interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Must pass background screening and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to respond calmly and take charge in emergencies and analyze risks in a school setting.
  • Able to work all shifts including events, and operate multiple software platforms.
  • Must clearly speak and understand English and safely operate campus vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure campus safety and security for students, staff, visitors and property.
  • Lock/unlock entrances at designated times and provide security at events.
  • Patrol grounds via vehicle or on foot and monitor for irregularities.
  • Operate security software, CCTV, radio channels and alarms; document activities and incidents.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement during emergencies and maintain logs and reports.
  • Direct traffic flow during drop-off/pickup and events; monitor environmental hazards.
  • Adhere to school policy on boundaries with students and complete required training.

Job description

Purpose:

The Campus Security Officer helps to ensure the security of the Episcopal School of Dallas campus and its students, employees, visitors, and property through the effective execution of established policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Ensures the security and safety of the campus and its constituents at all times.

    • Locks and unlocks campus and building entrances and exits at designated times and as authorized otherwise.
    • Provides security at campus and building entrances through established protocols.
    • Provides directions and information as needed.
    • Provides security at designated events as required.
    • Checks parent and visitor identification and authorization information.
  • Patrols school grounds and parking areas by vehicle and on foot; observes employees, students, and visitors in order to ensure a secure and safe environment.
  • Operates security software systems, uses email and computer communications, monitors and records CCTV systems, monitors weather systems.
  • Responds to alarms and emergencies.
  • Prepares logs and reports; documents daily activities, illegal activity and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
    • Monitors the campus for environmental hazards and takes corrective action as required by school policy.
    • Directs or assists with vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow during student drop‑off/pickup periods and special events.
    • Maintains and monitors multiple radio channels, security cameras, fire alarm system, weather alert system, and access controls.
    • Calls police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with students.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Generally, 40% sitting, 40% walking, and 20% standing.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor conditions.
  • Potential exposure to dangerous situations.
  • Extended periods of isolated work.
Requirements
  • Has or is able to obtain Texas DPS PSB Level II non‑commissioned security officer license.
  • High school diploma or GED required, supplemented by a minimum of six months previous security, military or enforcement vocational training or experience.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; specifically for addressing potential conflicts.
  • Requires successful completion of employment background screening and verification; requires valid state driver's license.
  • Ability to take charge while responding professionally and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to analyze security and safety risks and make appropriate recommendations within a school setting.
  • Effective communication skills to express ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, students, parents, school administration and local law enforcement representatives.
  • Ability to work all shifts (day, evening, night, weekends and holidays) as needed, to include special events.
  • Ability to operate multiple computer software platforms.
  • Ability to clearly speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to safely operate golf cars, vehicles, buses, and other equipment as required.
