School Security Attendant I & II – Dole Middle School, Honolulu, HI

Overview

This posting is for School Security Attendant positions (authorized Level II) at Dole Middle School. Level I may be considered if recruiting difficulties arise.

Salary Range
  • School Security Attendant I (SR-07): $2,784.88 per month
  • School Security Attendant II (SR-09): $2,899.72 per month
Responsibilities
  • Patrol campus during class, lunch, before and after school hours
  • Observe and report unusual student behavior
  • Discuss problems with students and encourage assistance or counseling
  • Ensure safe movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic; supervise the JPO program if applicable
  • Enforce school rules and regulations (prohibit smoking, gambling, fighting, vandalism, etc.)
  • Inspect playground, bathrooms, assembly areas, cafeteria and other facilities for safety and security hazards
  • Direct unauthorized persons and drivers off campus and report concerns to administrators
  • Assist with supervision and control at assemblies, pep rallies, athletic events, and dances
  • Instruct loitering students to proceed to their destination
  • Assist teaching staff in handling disturbances
  • Notify administrators of critical situations requiring police, fire, or outside assistance
  • Activate alarm as necessary
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be able to read, write, and understand oral and written English, follow instructions, and perform simple arithmetic.

Experience Requirements
  • Level I: 6 months general experience or a high school diploma
    6 months specialized experience
  • Level II: 1–1.5 years total experience; 6 months general and 1–2 years specialized experience
Specific Experience Definitions
  • General Experience: Administrative, technical, clerical work involving procedures and public interaction
  • Specialized Experience: Work in government, military, private or non‑profit organization, or school system that protects property, people, and life; knowledge of basic protective systems required
Substitutions Allowed
  • High school diploma may substitute six months of general experience
  • One year or more of law enforcement, security, or honorable military discharge may substitute six months of general experience and one year of specialized experience
  • Associate degree or higher may substitute six months of general experience and one year of specialized experience
Certification Required

Applicants must be registered as a Guard with the State of Hawaii Board of Private Detectives and Guards, Act 208 (Session Laws of Hawaii 2010). A copy of the registration card must be submitted with the application.
