Job summary

Windham Southwest Supervisory Union seeks a part-time Student Assistant Program Counselor (SAP) to screen and refer students for mental health and substance use disorders. The SAP will provide prevention education, community referrals, case management, and collaboration with a licensed clinician.

The role involves teamwork with TVMHS staff, ongoing trainings, and coordination with local agencies to support students and families while maintaining confidentiality under 42 CFR and HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree preferred.
• At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

• Establish safe and supportive relationships with students and maintain a consistent presence in the school.
• Attend required trainings regarding substance abuse prevention and use of the CRAFFT and GAIN screening tools.
• Provide intervention and screening to students identified as having mental health or substance abuse issues.
• Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate outside agencies.
• Make effective internal and external referrals for students with mental health or substance abuse issues for more specialized or intensive services as needed.
• Provide case management and aftercare services to students going to and returning from treatment.
• Meet with concerned families and work with students and their parents/guardians where services are needed.
• Participate in the WSWSU Whole Wellness Team (WWT) and attend WWT monthly meetings.
• Plan and facilitate substance abuse prevention education presentations for TVMHS students.
• Plan and facilitate student support groups, where students are free to express their feeling and concerns, and learn to make behavior changes and develop skills.
• Implement the NOT (Not on Tobacco) youth tobacco cessation program.
• Attend supervision on a monthly basis with a licensed clinician.
