Qualifications

• High school diploma; bachelor’s degree in criminal justice preferred.
• Certification as a law enforcement officer in Alabama.
• Valid driver’s license in Alabama.
• Fingerprint clearance with Alabama State Department of Education prior to start date.

Responsibilities

• Patrol school district campuses to prevent and respond to criminal activities, disturbances, or safety hazards.
• Enforce applicable local, state, and federal laws within the school district's jurisdiction.
• Investigate incidents, file reports, and work with local law enforcement agencies when necessary.
• Maintain a strong presence during school hours, events, and extracurriculars to deter threats.
• Build rapport with students, staff, and parents to promote trust and open communication.
• Provide guidance in emergencies, including lockdowns, evacuations, and first-aid.
• Collaborate with school admins to develop safety protocols and crisis plans.
• Develop positive relationships with students through mentoring and programs.
• Conduct educational presentations on drug awareness, bullying prevention, and internet safety.
• Serve as a resource for students and staff on safety concerns.
• Work with teachers and counselors to address security concerns.
• Assist in proactive strategies to maintain a safe school environment.
• Serve as liaison between the school district and local law enforcement.
• Stay current on laws, regulations, and best practices in school safety.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
