Job summary

North Gibson School Corporation seeks a School Resource Officer appointed by the Princeton City Police Department to work on the school campus. The officer will be under the direction of the police department and must meet Indiana training requirements for school resource officers.

Qualifications

• Appointed as a police reserve officer by Princeton City Police Department.
• Subject to the direction of Princeton City Police Department.
• Must obey rules and orders of Princeton City Police Department.
• Has completed training required of regular full‑time law enforcement officers.
• Has completed the minimum training requirements under IC 5‑2‑1‑9.
• Has received at least forty (40) hours of SRO training from approved programs.
• Training includes skills for campus security needs and strategies.

Responsibilities

• Assist the school safety director in developing and implementing the school safety plan.
• Carry out additional responsibilities assigned to the SRO.
• Be a visible law enforcement figure on campus handling school code violations.
• Maintain the physical plant to provide a safe environment.
• Be a resource for students, teachers, and parents for non‑criminalijustice concerns.
• Make appearances before classrooms and groups as a speaker on safety topics.
• Share information with administration about safety concerns.
• Work with the superintendent to develop plans to prevent dangerous situations.
• Hold campus meetings with principal or designee weekly or as agreed.
• Cooperate in expulsion hearings when requested by the Superintendent.
• Follow school board policies that do not conflict with police policies.
• Take appropriate enforcement action against intruders as requested by the principal.
• Develop knowledge of students with behavioral/mental health issues for support.
• Wear department uniform and on‑duty weapon as required.
• Assist in security for school events.
• Assist district admin and police in staffing additional SRO positions.
• Authority to arrest, search, seize and carry weapon as allowed.
• Other safety duties as assigned.
