Job summary

Volusia County School Board in Daytona Beach is seeking a Fire, Health and Safety Inspector to conduct on-site inspections, audits, and program development ensuring a safe environment for students and staff. The role requires certification, 3 years of inspection experience, and after-hours availability.

Responsibilities include reporting, training, and collaboration with district personnel and external agencies to maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA and DoE standards.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years verified experience as fire and safety inspector
• Valid Florida Driver’s License; willingness to obtain Florida license if currently held from another state
• Available after working hours for emergencies, disaster response and scheduled shift work
• Must attend and complete training to maintain knowledge of current technology and systems
• Operate school board vehicles per policy when assigned

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site fire, health, sanitation and casualty inspections and make corrective recommendations
• Represent the school board professionally to stakeholders and the public
• Ensure safety of students and staff as a priority
• Conduct annual audits of playgrounds, kitchens, labs and career technology facilities
• Develop and deliver safety and environmental programs district-wide
• Input inspection data and generate reports for appropriate agencies
• Assist with compliance of Right to Know law and related requirements
• Participate in emergency planning and safety committees
• Deliver OSHA/NFPA/DoE compliance presentations
• Investigate safety concerns and prepare reports
• Coordinate emergency response program activities and after-hours responses
• Assist in accident investigations and workers' compensation reports

Education

High school diploma or GED

Associates degree preferred

Florida Marshal’s Office Fire Safety Inspector certification

SREF Inspector’s course completion
