Job summary

The City of Lawrenceburg seeks a School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Lawrenceburg School District. The SRO serves as a resource for students, staff, and teachers, coordinating safety and law-enforcement activities within the school environment.

This full-time role requires strong community liaison skills and commitment to student welfare. The SRO will work 8-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday, with on-call duties and overtime as needed, starting on or after January 6, 2027.

Qualifications

• Must have a Valid Driver’s License.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must successfully complete Indiana Law Enforcement Academy training within 1 year of placement.
• Must meet and maintain Indiana Law requirements.
• Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, traffic, investigation, and data systems.
• Knowledge of criminal and traffic law; community resources.
• Ability to operate safely at high speeds and use weapons as required.
• Excellent communication with public in emotional situations.

Responsibilities

• Enforces Indiana laws and city ordinances; assists with school policy enforcement.
• Ensures safety and building security; collaborates on emergency plans.
• Investigates incidents on school grounds and assists in prosecutions as needed.
• Provides classroom law and safety education as approved by officials.
• Acts as liaison among students, parents, staff, and external agencies.
