Job summary

Portsmouth School Department seeks a part-time Security Specialist substitute to cover a leave from Sept 14 to roughly Dec 13, 2026. The role ensures a safe environment by following procedures and leveraging training from law enforcement or emergency response backgrounds.

Responsibilities include monitoring student and staff movement, reporting conditions, managing access, assisting with emergencies and lockdown drills, and coordinating with administration and law enforcement as needed.

Qualifications

• Law enforcement or emergency first response experience preferred.
• High School Diploma, college coursework preferred.
• Background Check Clearance required.
• Ability to work with and/or carry students needing movement or containment.
• Ability to work outdoors for periods of time throughout the day.
• Demonstrates aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily operating routines including exterior inspections and life-safety checks.
• Monitor movement of students, staff, and visitors during the day.
• Report unusual conditions and respond appropriately.
• Maintain surveillance and assist with greeting/sign-in of visitors.
