Job summary

YMCA of the Pines is seeking a School's Out Assistant Counselor to help plan and run activities for children in before- and after-school programs. You will support safety, growth, and skill development in small groups while coordinating with the Site Supervisor and staff.

The role requires supervising children, effective communication with families, and adherence to state licensing and YMCA policies. Training in CPR/First Aid and abuse prevention is expected within 60 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Requires ability to clear state background checks (criminal history and child abuse records).
• Requires knowledge of supervising and ensuring safety of children.

Overview

The School's Out Assistant Counselor is responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of activities, programs, and experiences for children in small groups at the designated program site. The Assistant Counselor is also responsible for the general safety, development, growth and skill achievement of the children in his/her group. Positions are available both before and after school.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing and participating in all activities while ensuring the delivery of a quality program.
• Responsible for assisting the Site Supervisor in: greeting children and parents; assuring proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; cleaning and storage of equipment and supplies in the program area.
• Attend staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training per State requirements.
• Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with parents, children, and other staff members.
• Adhere to program and state licensing standards, including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.

Qualifications

• At least 16 years of age
  • If 18+ years of age, please apply for our Counselor position
• Ability to clear state-mandated background checks, including criminal history and child abuse records checks.
• Knowledge in the supervision and safety of children.
• Possess leadership skills and can assist in encouraging and motivating children in a before- and after-school setting.
• Able to communicate effectively with coworkers, children, and parents/guardians.
• CPR, First Aid, AED Certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training completed within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to lead in one or more of the following areas: sports, games, academics, crafts.

Posted Salary Range
