JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of police work for the school system involving policy and law enforcement, the protection of life and property, and the prevention and investigation of crime.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Protects and serves the students and employees of the Crawford County School District and enforces the laws of the State of Georgia
  • Performs scheduled and non-scheduled visits to all schools and facilities within the School District in order to promote safety and security
  • Provides investigative assistance and security advice to the principals of each school within the School District
  • Promotes a positive and cooperative working environment between employees of the School District and local law enforcement entities
  • Demonstrates effective writing and verbal communication skills and strong public speaking skills
  • Maintains detailed records and reports on all operations of the Program
  • Enjoys working with young people and is able to establish an appropriate and professional working relationship with school officials, faculty, staff, students, parents, and community
  • Presents a neat and professional appearance
  • Is willing to work flexible hours to attend extracurricular activities and has a positive attitude toward continuing education and is willing to attend all necessary training to retain certification and keeps current on school issues
  • Maintains a high standard of professional conduct in his/her dealings with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community members
  • Complies with all applicable federal and state laws, School Board policies and procedures, school rules and standards governing law enforcement in carrying out duties and responsibilities for maintaining order in the schools
  • Is a legal liaison between school system and area law enforcement agencies and courts
  • Maintains visibility in the schools in order to help prevent crimes and other disruptive behavior
  • Makes himself/herself available for conferences with students, parents and faculty members in order to assist with problems relating to law enforcement or crime prevention to the greatest extent possible
  • Assists in coordinating and implementing the school safety plan in order to provide for all possible school emergencies
  • Assists school principals in coordinating security and safety to all after-school events, including athletic events. Where requested by administration, attends both home and away sporting events, school dances, PTO meetings, School Board meetings and any other requested extracurricular event
  • Is responsible for investigating all crimes committed on or against school property or during school activities, at all times regardless of whether school is in session or not
  • Serves as a classroom resource for instruction in the following areas: safety programs, law-related education, life skills, conflict resolution, gang resistance, and other programs dealing with law and drug awareness
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or Director of School Safety/Chief of Police

No supervisory responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in law enforcement.
  • POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification a must.
  • Current and valid drivers' license is required.
  • Police Officer experience required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Extensive background investigation and drug screening will be conducted prior to employment
