Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools seeks a School Psychologist to provide psychological services to students, supporting academic, emotional, and behavioral well-being and collaborating with staff and families in a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include psychoeducational assessments, report writing, short-term counseling, group sessions, MTSS collaboration, crisis support, staff training, and consulting on behavior management and inclusive practices.

Qualifications

  • Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
  • Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational assessments to evaluate cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral functioning.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive reports of each student assessed; interpret assessment findings for staff, parents, and other authorized persons as necessary; make educational recommendations.
  • Provide short-term counseling to students dealing with mental health, behavioral, or emotional concerns.
  • Develop and lead group counseling sessions on topics such as coping strategies, peer relationships, and anxiety management.
  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school professionals to support students' academic and behavioral success.
  • Offer consultation to school staff on strategies for behavior management, differentiated instruction, and creating inclusive classroom environments.
  • Provide immediate psychological support during crises and assist in the development of crisis intervention plans.
  • Participate in school-wide safety initiatives and support the creation of positive behavioral interventions.
  • Provide training for teachers and staff on topics such as mental health awareness, student support strategies, and recognizing signs of distress or trauma.
  • Collaborate in the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework by providing data-driven insights, monitoring student progress, and offering targeted interventions to support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Goal:

NOTES:

National Certification in School Psychology(NCSP) preferred.


Degree(s) awarded from a National Association of School Psychologists(NASP) accredited institution preferred.


Contract Period: 187 days


Salary Range: According to the Madison County Board of Education salary schedule.
