Position: School Psychologist

Reports to: Building Administrator/Department Chair

Job Status: 10 months

Summary of Position: Services of a School Psychologist include, but not limited to, consultation and collaboration, conducting psycho-educational assessments, facilitating the problem solving process/ response to intervention model, and participating as a member of the special education team.

Qualifications

  • Current Illinois Professional Educator License with a School Psychologist endorsement
  • Prior experience working as a Psychologist in a school district preferred
  • Experience working with students demonstrating needs in the areas of communication, sensory and social skills preferred.

Essential Job Functions

  • Facilitates and participates in the screening and benchmarking of students including and/or administration of screening instruments and procedures.
  • Prepares for and facilitates problem solving meetings, special education meetings and other assignments.
  • Facilitates and participates in IEP meetings to determine the eligibility and appropriate planning for students who require special education programs and services.
  • Conducts valid intellectual, academic, behavioral, social and emotional assessments to respond to the referral statements.
  • Provides an effective program based on the social, emotional, behavioral and instructional needs of the individual or group involved. These should include, but not limited to:
    • Assessment of student needs and presenting problems based on the students’ current level of functioning and with respect for the students’ life styles, values and coping abilities.
    • Presentation of problem solving techniques.
    • Use of a variety of multiple techniques and interventions, including individual and/or group work, classroom observation and individual and/or group interventions.
    • Evaluation of students’ progress on a regular basis with effective follow through (progress monitoring).
    • Be an effective data analyzer as it relates to academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning and link this data to appropriate interventions.
  • Must be available to students, parents and colleagues for education related purposes.
  • Collaborates with other members of the staff and student services’ teams in planning instructional, behavioral, social and emotional goals, objectives and methods regarding the classroom and the functional needs of the students.
  • Works to establish and maintain communications with students, parents and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral programs of students.
  • Provides effective listening and communications through written or verbal feedback regarding student needs.
  • Provides individual and/or group counseling to students to promote positive mental health.
  • Participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of behavior plans at the individual, group, and school-wide levels.
  • Correlates School Psychology objectives with the philosophy, goals and objectives stated by the district.
  • Assists in crisis situation by providing crisis intervention support and counseling.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Serves as liaison between schools, families and community agencies.
  • Participates in the observation, identification, evaluation and solution of problems and needs of the school system and of the community.
  • Maintains records as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Has a thorough understanding of state and federal regulations that govern the operation and administration of regular and special education.
  • Maintains ethical and professional standards.
  • Attends and participates in School Psychology Department meetings. Serves on building and district committees when assigned.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, district policies and administrative regulations
  • Meets and works with students at designated locations and times; develops and adheres to a workable schedule.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with district policies and practices.
Physical Ability

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and run. The employee will experience occasional lifting and or moving up to 100 lbs, such as lifting a child from the floor. The employee must be able to push/pull items up to 80 lbs., such as children in wheelchairs.

Work Environment

Hazards- Potential exposure to communicable disease and contact with blood and other body fluids; potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior.
