Job summary

Newington Public Schools in Connecticut is seeking a school psychologist to support assessments, counseling, and collaboration with families and staff.

The school psychologist works under the supervision of the supervisor of special services and partners with outside resources to connect students with needed services. A successful candidate will have certification (070) School Psychologist and an advanced degree.

Qualifications

  • Experience/Requirement: Graduation from an accredited college with an advanced level degree preferred.
  • License Or Certificate: Connecticut State Department of Education Certification required (070) School Psychologist.

Responsibilities

  • Administers individual psychological evaluations.
  • Interprets results of evaluation to parents, when appropriate.
  • Advises teachers of evaluation results and offers recommendations.
  • Prepares a comprehensive psychological report following evaluation.
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students identified in need of this service.
  • Participates in Planning and Placement Team meetings to share information and insights.
  • Communicates with outside mental health facilities regarding students.
  • Keeps abreast of psychological developments and trends through professional conferences and reading.
  • Participates in inservice workshops and curriculum planning.
  • Makes a continuous effort to inform the school and community about the program.

Job Description

The school psychologist is comprehensively trained in the areas of individual testing for intellectual assessment and personality dynamics. Each psychologist works in his assigned schools under the supervision of the supervisor of special services. The school psychologist plays an important role in providing counseling services for students and/or linking the family with outside counseling sources.

Essential Job Functions
  • Administers individual psychological evaluations.
  • Interprets results of evaluation to parents, when appropriate.
  • Advises teachers of evaluation results and offers recommendations.
  • Prepares a comprehensive psychological report following evaluation.
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students identified in need of this service.
  • Participates in Planning and Placement Team meetings in order to share information and insights garnered through evaluation and counseling
  • Communicates with outside mental health facilities regarding students.
  • Keeps abreast of psychological developments and trends through professional conferences, visits to other schools and professional reading.
  • Participates in inservice workshops and curriculum planning.
  • Makes a continuous effort to inform the school and community about the nature and purpose of the program.
  • Assumes responsibility for the requisitioning of equipment and supplies according to accepted budget procedures.
  • Arranges for conferences with pupils, principals, and other staff members to share information.
  • Assumes responsibility for care, inventory and the ordering of psychological tests and supplies.
  • Prepares special projects, develops research reports and participates in small group committees at the request of the supervisor of special services.
Required Minimum Qualifications

Experience/Requirement: Graduation from an accredited college with an advanced level degree preferred.

License Or Certificate

Connecticut State Department of Education Certification required:
