Job summary

Lynchburg City Schools is seeking a School Psychologist in Lynchburg, VA for an 11-month contract with full benefits. Reporting to the Director of Exceptional Learners, you will provide psychological services, conduct testing, and collaborate with families and agencies to support students' educational growth.

The role requires Virginia licensure eligibility, strong assessment interpretation, and the ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological services within the school division per School Board policies.
  • Consult with central office staff, school-based staff, parents and agencies to interpret referrals and make recommendations.
  • Conduct in-services and workshops for staff and parents as appropriate.
  • Liaise with mental health clinics, social services, family court and community agencies.
  • Interpret testing to inform educational decisions and eligibility for services.
  • Provide crisis and non-crisis interventions and assist in behavioral program development.
  • Participate in meetings to support educational growth and special education processes.
  • Travel between school sites as required.

FLSA Status: Exempt Site/Location: Exceptional Learners Reports to: Director of Exceptional Learners Date: 01/15/2026


POSITION SUMMARY

  • To provide psychological services with in the school division in accordance with the policies of the School Board


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Consult with central office staff, school-based staff, parents and other appropriate persons to agencies to increase their understanding of referred students and to assist in making recommendations for their optimal growth

  • Conducts in-services, workshops or consultative conferences for central office and/or school-based personnel, and as appropriate for parents and public or private agencies, in areas of mutual concern

  • Assists in providing liaison services between the school division and the mental health clinic, social services, family court and other community agencies which provide special services for children and their families

  • Conducts research to acquire information which will assist in enhancing psychological services and the educational process

  • Participates in legal appeals and hearings regarding students who have been evaluated psychologically or are in special education programs

  • Administrators and interprets individual psychological and psycho-educational testing to referred students for the assessment of intelligence, personality, aptitude, achievement and perception as appropriate

  • Provides crisis and non-crisis interventions including consultation, individual and group counseling and assistance in developing behavioral programs

  • Participates in school-based or division wide committee or meetings for the exchange of information which would contribute to the enhancement of the education process or the awareness of the needs of specific children and their educational growth

  • Participates in school-based School Consultation Team meetings upon request from the building administrator

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
