Job summary

Youngstown Area Jewish Federation is seeking a School of Visual Arts Instructor to bring art to life for participants of all ages. The role includes after-school classes, community programs, Open Studio supervision, and senior living classes, with opportunities to inspire and educate across our community.

The ideal candidate will create engaging lesson plans, integrate art history and various styles, and maintain a professional, collaborative approach with staff and participants.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Instruct various visual art classes per descriptions.
• Create and teach after-school art classes (2 weekly).
• Lead monthly Senior Living and community classes.
• Supervise Open Studio twice a month.
• Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and routines.
• Communicate concepts clearly and cultivate student creativity.
• Maintain art history knowledge and trends.
• Manage time and prep workspace; start/end on time.
• Assist with supplies inventory and ordering.
• Record attendance and follow registration procedures.
• Coordinate with Manager, Director, and facilities teams.
• Maintain professional, enthusiastic relationships with participants and staff.
• Adhere to JCC policies and complete extra duties as assigned.

From after-school classes and community programs to Open Studio and senior living classes, this position offers the chance to create, teach, and inspire throughout our community. The School Of Visual Arts Instructor Will Contribute To The Vision, Mission, And Values Of The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation By Instructing Various Visual Arts Classes For The Overall Enrichment And Well-being Of All Class Participants. The Ideal Candidate Should Be Able To Demonstrate The Following

• Instruct a variety of visual art classes, following the class descriptions. Classes may include School Age, Open Studio, Community Classes, Senior Living Facilities, Summer Camp, Early Learning Center, and more.
• This position specifically will create and teach 2 after school art classes each week, a monthly Senior Living class, a monthly community class, and support community creativity by supervising Open Studio twice a month.
• Create and maintain age appropriate lesson plans, ensuring that scheduled class time consists of set-up, instruction, student work time, and clean-up.
• Communicate concrete and abstract concepts as part of class instruction, identifying and cultivating creativity and skill among students.
• Maintain a high level of applicable professional knowledge, including knowledge of art history, different art genres, and current art instruction trends in order to teach a range of art styles.
• Practice good time management skills such as arriving with enough time to prepare your workspace, and beginning and ending classes on time.
• Assist in inventory and ordering of supplies
• Follow class registration and attendance record procedures through Club Automation software and Google Suite.
• Maintain communication with both the department Manager and Director, as well as the Facility & Maintenance Team, ensuring that workspace is kept clean and in proper working order.
• Display at all times a professional and enthusiastic attitude while developing meaningful relationships with students, members, guests, and colleagues.
• Communicate and cooperate with colleagues and various departments as part of the JCC team, including attending staff meetings as needed.
• Adhere to all JCC and departmental policies
• Complete all additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

The ideal candidate has two or more years of teaching experience, and feels comfortable working with a large range of demographics. Self motivation, a high level of organization, and a love for art education is needed. The right candidate should possess a strong understanding of various art mediums, the talent to create meaningful art, and the capability to teach art skills to others.

Workload expected: Monday afternoon/evening each week and additional outreach or community programs as needed.

Must meet comprehensive background requirements for licensed child care programs in the state of Ohio. A physical and drug test will be required.
