Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years experience in foodservice; supervisory or lead experience preferred.
• Knowledge of USDA school meal regulations and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP).
• ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
• Strong communication and organization skills.
• Positive attitude and commitment to team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Oversee kitchen operations, including preparing and cooking foods according to recipes.
• Assist in supervision and training of cafeteria staff.
• Organize daily work schedules and assign tasks for timely food prep and service.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local food safety regulations and district guidelines.
• Monitor portioning, presentation, and quality for consistency with menu plans.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas, equipment and utensils.
• Communicate effectively with staff, students and the Director of School Nutrition.
• Assist in inventory management: ordering, receiving, storage of food and supplies.
• Handle minor performance issues under the Director of School Nutrition's direction.
• Prepare production logs and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of School Nutrition.
