Position Summary

The SNP Manager is responsible for maintaining the policies and standards of the Dooly County Board of Education, State, and Federal School Nutrition Programs regarding practices of food preparation, sanitation, serving, and record keeping. Assignments and instructions are received through written or oral directions from the school nutrition director. The School Food Service Manager, under the direction of the School Nutrition Director, has supervisory responsibility of a school food service operation.

Terms of Employment

Salary and work year will be based on the Dooly County Board of Education approved salary schedule and years of verifiable relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Work Experience
  • Prior experience as a school nutrition manager is preferred.
  • Experience in K-12 public school environment is preferred.

Essential Duties
  • Attends relevant training classes, workshops and any called manager meetings.
  • Maintains defined standards of sanitation and safety for personnel, food preparation, kitchen equipment, and physical plant.
  • Manages the preparation of food within an established production system following standardized recipes, preparation and service methods, and food handling techniques to ensure acceptable standards.
  • Directs preparation and serves planned meals for special school-related and community activities.
  • Maintains required department records.
  • Orients and instructs employees in regulations and procedures.
  • Participates in a two-way communication system within the individual school and the food service system and within the school system.
  • Implements procedures necessary to meet the nutritional needs of the students.
  • Participates in establishing and/or amending departmental procedures that affect the manager's responsibilities.
  • Conducts continuous on-the-job training for all food service personnel.
  • Checks food shipment into the school, signing invoices only after each order has been verified.
  • Determines the quantities of food to be prepared daily.
  • Determines the size of serving to meet the necessary age requirements.
  • Prepares food according to a planned menu and tested recipes, ensures uniform portions and determines if the finished product is of best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served.
  • Records all food requisitions from the storeroom, and records all meals served, designating with or without milk.
  • Performs daily edit checks of meals served.
  • Oversees the locking of the storeroom and maintaining of a correct monthly inventory.
  • Orders on a weekly basis all necessary food and supplies.
  • Sends all required reports, food orders and any other requested items to central office by due dates determined by the SNP Director.
  • Reports immediately to the School Nutrition Director any problems, illnesses or accidents occurring in the kitchen or the cafeteria.
  • Reports to the School Nutrition Director any faulty or inferior quality food which is received.
  • Supervises the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, and the washing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils.
  • Uses the Online Food Buying Guide as a reference for computing the quantities of food to purchase and prepare. All purchasing must be in accordance with the Dooly County Board of Education and the School Nutrition Program Procurement Plan.
  • Assigns work and posts the daily work schedule.
  • Possesses the ability to organize, delegate and supervise.
  • Assists in the kitchen as needed.
  • Manager and Asst Manager will complete daily bank deposit form.
  • Maintain high standards of conduct at and away from work, and on social media.
  • Accepts any added responsibilities and performs other duties as assigned by the School Nutrition Director and School Superintendent.
  • The Manager and Asst Manager are responsible for remaining current with his/her ServSafe Certification.
Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment, including personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.

Terms of Employment

Salary and work year to be in accordance with the current schedule.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

Performing the functions of this job may require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and some fine finger dexterity. The job may require occasional lifting of up to 50lbs. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing.
