Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking a Child Nutrition Program Worker to assist in the preparation and service of meals in the district kitchen. You will rotate through CNP activities, operate equipment, and maintain hygiene and safety standards in a fast-paced school environment.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and adherence to USDA guidelines, with opportunities for ongoing training and professional growth within Baldwin County Schools’ nutrition program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Able to meet the suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act.
• Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively.
• Ability to follow Child Nutrition Program guidelines and regulations.
• Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities.
• Ability to complete annual continuing education training as required by the USDA.
• Strength, stamina, agility, dexterity, and acuity to perform job responsibilities safely.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Punctuality and regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparation and service of food according to the written menu and supervisor’s instructions.
• Performs food storage, inventory control, and sanitation tasks.
• Operates kitchen equipment per procedures.
• Rotates through CNP activities including cashier, server, cleanup, and related duties.
• Maintains professional dress and hygiene suitable for food service work.
• Observes safety precautions in kitchen and work areas.
• Cooperates with school staff to maintain high CNP standards.
• Follows instructions and communicates effectively with staff, vendors, parents, and students.
• Participates in in-service training and professional development.
• Performs duties courteously and with professional ethics.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
• Reports problems and irregularities promptly.
• Maintains and submits reports and records timely.
• Works collaboratively on school/system committees as required.
