Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of school food service experience or equivalent food service experience.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of USDA school meal regulations and Offer vs. Serve preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification required (or ability to obtain within designated timeframe).
  • Ability to read, write, and utilize basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
  • Basic computer skills required (email, POS systems, production records).

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily food service operations, including staff supervision, food production, service, marketing, and sanitation.
  • Implement menus using standardized recipes and effective production techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA meal pattern requirements and reimbursable meal guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate daily production records, meal counts, deposits, and required documentation.
  • Manage food ordering, receiving, storage, and inventory control procedures.
  • Assure that sanitation and safety practices comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate staff according to established district procedures.
  • Promote student and staff satisfaction by merchandising and serving meals attractively.
  • Direct meal preparation for special functions and community activities as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with the school administration and the School Nutrition Director.
  • Attend job-related training and workshops.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director or Supervisor.

Position Summary

The School Nutrition Cafeteria Manager is responsible for the daily management of the school nutrition program at the assigned site. This position provides leadership in staff supervision, food production, financial accountability, regulatory compliance, food safety, and customer service. The Manager ensures that nutritious, appealing, and reimbursable meals are prepared and served in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining program sustainability and promoting student participation.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises: School Nutrition Assistants and Assistant Manager.

Qualifications

Food Safety & Accountability
  • Implement and monitor HACCP procedures.
  • Conduct and document required temperature checks.
  • Maintain required systems of financial and operational accountability.
  • Ensure proper portion control and minimize food waste.
  • Work to support student participation and overall program sustainability.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements

Work in this classification is considered medium physical work requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

  • Stand for six continuous hours.
  • Stoop, squat, kneel, and bend for cleaning and food preparation tasks.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 pounds from shoulder level to overhead.
  • Perform repetitive hand and wrist motions.
  • Work in hot, humid kitchen environments.
  • Work with cleaning chemicals following safety guidelines.
  • Maintain high standards of personal cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Follow oral and written directions accurately.
