Job summary

Gadsden Elementary School District #32 is seeking a Cafeteria Manager to oversee daily food service operations at an assigned site, supervise cafeteria workers, and ensure meals meet nutritional and health standards.

The role includes inventory, cash handling, reporting, training new staff, and coordinating with the Food Service Director to maintain quality service and compliance. Bilingual preferred; 215-day schedule at $18.00 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Community college or vocational school degree with study in a job-related area.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with at least five years of satisfactory job-related experience.
  • Food Handlers / Serv Safe Certificate.

Job description

Purpose Statement

The role of Cafeteria Manager involves providing support to food service activities at an assigned location, organizing food preparation activities, overseeing and assisting cafeteria workers with food preparation and serving, confirming quantities and quality of food items to meet nutritional guidelines, providing written reports, and complying with mandated health requirements. Bilingual preferred. Reports to Food Service Director.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. to meet state health and safety standards and convey or gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Implement planned menus to meet students' mandated daily nutritional requirements.
  • Inspect food and/or supply deliveries to verify quantity, quality, and specifications of orders and to comply with mandated health requirements.
  • Inventory food, condiments, supplies, and equipment at specified intervals to ensure availability of items required for meeting projected menu requirements.
  • Manage assigned site operations—including overseeing cafeteria workers, monitoring meal accounts and expenditures, evaluating new products and/or menus—to provide efficient food services in compliance with established nutritional and health requirements.
  • Monitor food service operations—including kitchen equipment, trays, utensils, staff assignments—to ensure a safe, clean, and sanitary working environment in compliance with standard practices and established nutritional and health and safety standards.
  • Operate point of sale system—scan ID, collect cash/payment tickets—to secure funds for food selection, count students, and meet nutritional standards.
  • Order food, equipment, and supplies to maintain an adequate inventory and keep operations within established nutritional and budget guidelines.
  • Orient new employees to cafeteria processes to provide information regarding site operations and activities.
  • Oversee the preparation, cooking, serving, and transportation of food and beverage items—breakfast, lunch, snack, grab-and-go, catered meals—to meet projected meal quantities, mandated nutritional and health standards, and ensure appealing presentation.
  • Oversee food service workers and other personnel (orients, trains) to maximize workforce efficiency and meet shift requirements.
  • Perform functions of other nutritional services positions as needed (help with cooking, cleaning, cashier during peak times or absences) to ensure adequate staff coverage within site nutritional services operations.
  • Prepare documentation (enrollment report, student allergy list, production records, cafeteria daily report, meal program records, monthly forecasts, timesheets, schedules, deposit report, etc.) to provide written support and/or convey information.
  • Process meal applications to disseminate information in compliance with administrative guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Process receipts to complete and document transactions and/or prepare bank deposits.
  • Reconcile transactions (meal counts, monies collected, cash deposits) to maintain account balances in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Respond to inquiries of students, staff, and the public (complaints, accidents, incidents) to provide information and/or direction regarding available food items and food service policies and practices.
  • Schedule work hours and assignments for cafeteria employees (covers absences, obtains substitutes) to ensure adequate coverage for daily operations.
Experience

Job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Education

Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in a job‑related area.

Equivalency

High School Diploma or equivalent with at least five years of satisfactory job‑related experience.

Certificates and Licenses

Food Handlers / Serv Safe Certificate.

Clearances

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, IVP (Identity Verified Print) Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Position
