Job summary

Tualatin High School in Tigard-Tualatin SD 23J is seeking a Nutrition Service Assistant 1 to provide and supervise daily meals for students, staff, and the community. The role includes food preparation, serving, sanitation, and cash handling using a POS system.

Immediate start with a 3.5-hour workday and potential lead duties in absence of supervisor. Requirements include a high school diploma, food handler certification, and basic math/computer skills.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Job related experience, which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job. Prior food services and/or customer service experience is preferred.
• Must obtain and maintain a current food handler’s certificate.
• Knowledge is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
• Specific knowledge is required to satisfactorily perform the job functions and comply with health standards and hazard, sanitation and safety practices and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems, Microsoft Office and Excel is preferred. Basic training with be provided if necessary.
• Responsibilities include working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others and maintain confidentiality concerning privileged information. Attend all required department meetings and training. Maintain knowledge of and comply with District and State regulations as they relate to food service preparation, safety and sanitation.

Responsibilities

• Provide nutrition services to a school population and assist in preparation, serving, cleaning, and selling meals.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain cleanliness.
• Enter meal accounting data using the POS system.
• Maintain records for meal accounting and temperature logs.
• Coordinate with staff from diverse backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages.
• Work under supervision and comply with sanitation rules.
• Scratch cooking as needed daily.
• Support other personnel to complete tasks.
