TIGARD-TUALATIN SD 23J’s ART RUTKIN ELEMENTARY is hiring a Kitchen Support-Nutrition Service Assistant 1 to assist in preparing, serving, and cleaning meals for students and staff. The role supports HACCP-compliant food handling and uses a POS meal system for accounting.

The part-time schedule (3.5 hours daily, 9 months) offers hands-on experience in a busy school kitchen, with emphasis on teamwork, safety, and customer service across diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior food service and/or customer service experience preferred.
• Must obtain and maintain a current food handler’s certificate.
• Basic math skills; ability to read and follow instructions; multi-step directions.

Responsibilities

• Operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain cleanliness.
• Prepare, cook and store foods according to HACCP methods.
• Enter computerized meal accounting and sales data.
• Assist in serving meals to students and staff.
• Maintain records for meal accounting and temperature logs.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents and school personnel from diverse backgrounds.
