School Nurse (Substitute)

Anticipated Start Date: Immediate

Responsibilities Include:

• Provide basic health care to students in case of injury or acute illness
• Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities
• Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
• Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
• Keep track of students’ vaccination records
• Update students’ medical history
• Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases)
• Ensure compliance with national and local health laws

• Certifications/Qualifications:
  In compliance with regulations established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Department of Education, the following criteria are required for the position of school nurse:
  MA DESE licensure:
  
  • School Nurse - Grades: All Levels or eligible for certification in school nursing, according to requirements developed by the Massachusetts Department of Education
  • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a college or university program accredited by the National League for Nursing
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in community health or pediatrics prior to entry to school nursing practice
  • Current CPR certification
  Pay: $175 per day
