Job summary

Qualifications

• Current license as a registered nurse in the state.
• Certification as a school nurse or working toward this certification in accordance with state law and regulation.
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college.
• Minimum of three years successful experience as a nurse or school nurse (preferred).
• Such alternatives to the above requirements as CSUSA may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a complete, up-to-date health record system using available technology.
• Plans and conducts screenings, examinations, and health appraisals in accordance with state law and CSUSA policy.
• Monitors newly enrolled students to ensure compliance with health laws and district policy (immunization, medical records).
• Advises and counsels students, staff, and parents on health issues as appropriate.
• Makes referrals to school resources and community agencies as necessary.
• Serves as a health instruction and curriculum planning resource.
• Provides input to administration on health policy implementation.
• Provides first aid as needed and assists emergency care givers as applicable.
• Maintains records as required.
• Makes recommendations to the principal regarding health and safety to promote a safe environment.
• Administers medication in accordance with state law and CSUSA policy.
• Communicates with parents/guardians about their child's health and keeps staff informed.
