Job summary

Performance Responsibilities

• Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of students based on the application of scientific principles.
• Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
• Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information and ideas among team members.
• Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed nurse.
• Communicates with the supervisor regarding patients’ physical condition, as needed.
• Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
• Provides for professional nursing care of students and staff.
• Makes appropriate referrals, conducts health evaluations and responds to requests to make early detection of physical problems.
• Communicates to students and staff methods of disease prevention.
• Assists in promoting programs on health education and immunization.
• Maintains current, complete and accurate clinical records.
• Coordinates vision, hearing, dental and scoliosis screening and health assessment.
• Provides emergency aid to students and school staff.
• Assists teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education.
• Performs related duties as required.

Physical Requirements

Medium Work: Lifting up to 20 pounds move objects.

Other physical demands: Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, climbing, and balancing. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling. Significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% standing and walking, and 40% sitting.
