Job summary

Akron Children's Medical Assistant position in Akron, OH, onsite in the school health program. The role provides clinical and administrative support to patients under a Provider or licensed Nurse, including phlebotomy, vital signs, and specimen collection.

The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma, completion of an MA program, and BLS certification, with knowledge of medical terminology and experience in a healthcare setting. This is a part-time, onsite role with a 0.56 FTE.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Certificate Program (MA), EMT, or Paramedic Program is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) training is required.
• Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA or RMA).
• No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Actively interfaces with patients and families of Akron Children's Hospitals.
• Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by Providers per policy.
• Collects data contributing to assessment and discharge plans under the direction of a Licensed Nurse.
• Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens per policy.
• Communicates patient findings to the Provider or Licensed Nurse using proper documentation.
• Accurate and timely documentation of care in the school medical record.
• Performs department-specific clinical duties such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings.
• Fulfills routine tasks and general office duties (faxing, copying, filing) as needed.
• Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms; develops positive relationships with patients and school staff.
• Completes assignments during scheduled hours; follows safety policies.
