Job summary

Houston County Schools is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Worker to support general maintenance and repair across district facilities. You will ensure safe, functional school buildings and coordinate with custodial staff during emergencies to keep operations running smoothly.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 2 years of maintenance experience, and a valid Alabama driver's license; Class A CDL is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of general building maintenance experience (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, construction).
• Valid Alabama Driver’s License.
• Class A CDL preferred.
• Good health and ability to perform duties.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Must meet background clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Performs general maintenance and repair tasks in various areas as assigned by the supervisor.
• Ensures worksites are safe and compliant with codes and regulations.
• Cooperates with custodial staff during emergencies to keep schools open and functional.
• Inspects equipment and systems; reports abnormalities and hazards.
• Responds to emergencies and performs necessary repairs.
• Uses work orders and maintains logs of maintenance activities.
• Recommends repairs beyond current scope and coordinates with outside contractors.
• Adheres to fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Maintains parts and supplies; requests needed items through procedures.
• Operates tools and equipment safely used in maintenance tasks.
