Job summary

Halifax Regional Centre for Education seeks a Cafeteria Worker to assist with food preparation and service for the school community. You will maintain dignity and confidentiality, promote healthy eating, and work within the School Lunch Program guidelines.

The role requires high school diploma, basic food safety training, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a fast-paced school environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
• Basic Food Safety Training is required, and can be provided during job training.
• Food service experience and/or training preferred.
• Understanding of food allergies and related conditions.
• Ability to perform duties including heavy lifting, standing and walking.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a busy school environment.

Responsibilities

• Complete daily logs (temperature, cleaning, food quantities).
• Place food orders through vendors when requested.
• Interact positively with students in the lunch line.
• Ensure food safety standards are followed at all times.
• Prepare and serve food; wash dishes and manage waste.
• Restock supplies and maintain clean work areas.
• Support school recycling program and team communication.
• Other duties as required.
