Job summary

Sidney City School District is seeking an Assistant Cook at Sidney High School in Sidney, Ohio. The position runs 3.25 hours per day from 10:15am to 1:30pm and reports to the Head Cook/cafeteria Manager.

You will prepare and serve meals, monitor quality and hygiene, and ensure compliance with health regulations. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and, preferably, post-secondary culinary training or school food service experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Post-secondary culinary program graduate preferred.
• Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test).
• Provides documented evidence of a clear criminal record.
• School food service experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of local, state, and Federal nutrition laws, sanitation standards, health codes, and food safety regulations is required.
• Health department sanitation course is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Checks with the food service supervisor and/or head cook for special instructions and follows directions.
• Receives and follows oral and written instructions. Seeks guidance when unclear.
• Communicates actions when head cook is absent and reports issues promptly.
• Keeps head cook informed about concerns and issues as they arise.
• Follows standardized recipes, monitors production sheets, and helps control costs and waste.
• Assists to meet established schedules and supports serving lines.
• Promotes healthy diets and prepares foods appealing to students’ age group.
• Maintains sanitary kitchen and orderly serving areas; replenishes supplies as needed.
• Works with staff to ensure a positive environment and handles inquiries tactfully.
