Job summary

Vicksburg Community Schools is seeking a dedicated Food Service Cook to join our morning kitchen team. The position runs 6:30am–1:30pm, Monday through Friday during the school year, totaling about 35 hours per week.

You will prepare and cook meals to menu and nutrition guidelines, help with prep, maintain safety and sanitation, and support serving to students and staff; ServSafe certification preferred or obtainable within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be ServSafe certified; or obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire
• Must have a good attendance record.
• Must possess good decision-making skills.
• Must be flexible in work assignments.
• Must have experience in the preparation of school meals.
• Must have a commitment to working as a team to achieve goals.
• Must demonstrate sociability and warmth in attitude toward students, other employees, and the supervisor.
• Must have a moderate level of math skills and be able to operate computerized machines.
• Must pass background checks and comply with state and district requirements for working with students.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to established menus and nutritional guidelines
• Assist with food preparation, including washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients
• Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices are followed
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, work areas, and serving spaces
• Support meal service and interact positively with students and staff
• Monitor inventory and assist with ordering supplies as needed
• Follow all health department and school district regulations
• General kitchen tasks as assigned by the kitchen supervisor and food service director.
