Job summary

Omaha Public Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional - Library to support the school library operations at Morton Middle School. The role runs August through May while students are in session.

Starting pay is $19.10 per hour with 8-hour days and full-time status. The ideal candidate will hold an Associate's degree or have substantial college coursework, possess strong shelving accuracy, and be proficient with library catalogs and digital resources.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours or demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing and math per competency test.
• Regular, punctual attendance is essential.
• Ability to shelve items with high accuracy using Dewey and alphabetical order.
• Knowledge of online catalog, circulation and research databases; assist staff and students.
• Previous library experience helpful.
• Ability to work without direct supervision; above-average work record.
• Ability to follow directions and troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues.
• Interact with students and staff in a courteous, professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Manage distribution of resources through the online circulation system; print barcodes; generate overdue and lost item notices; return items to proper locations.
• Prepare bibliographies and reports using digital and print resources.
• Remove materials for librarian review according to protocols; download or duplicate media as requested within copyright guidelines.
• Reconcile purchase orders and invoices; ensure delivery of new materials.
• Check in materials through circulation system; verify catalog records, spine labels, and barcodes.
• Add items to records in circulation system; assist with marketing displays and announcements.
• Assist students and staff in locating information in print and digital resources; help with citation tools, word processing, and spreadsheets.
