Job summary

Noble and Greenough School in Dedham is seeking a Librarian for a temporary leave replacement at the Putnam Library. The position runs January 4, 2027–June 11, 2027 and includes reference work, research instruction, programming, and collection management.

The role requires MLS or at least two years of library experience, the ability to lift 25 pounds, and availability to close the library at 4:30 p.m. several days per week. Housing may be available in limited cases.

Qualifications

• A master’s degree in library science or at least two years of full-time work in a library is required.
• Knowledge of library systems and procedures, including cataloging, circulation, readers’ advisory, and reference work.
• Research instruction experience preferred.
• Experience working with young people or in a school environment.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate effectively.
• Commitment to customer service, connection, and community.
• Commitment to the ethical and responsible use of information.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds.
• Availability to close the library at 4:30 p.m. several days per week.

Responsibilities

• Staff the reference desk and assist patrons with circulation, reference, research, and readers’ advisory requests.
• Plan and staff library programming for students and employees, including book clubs, crafts, and other project- or community-based activities.
• Teach research skills and assist student research, and meet individually with students.
• Perform cataloging and collection management tasks and projects, including cataloging new additions to the collection, editing older catalog records, weeding, and managing interlibrary loan requests.
• Design library book displays.
• Perform library opening and closing tasks.
• Monitor student behavior and enforce library rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
