Job summary

South San Antonio Independent School District seeks a 2026-2027 School Librarian to direct the operation of the school library/media center and support instructional programs at assigned campus(es) in San Antonio, Texas. The position is Exempt, reports to the Principal, and covers 193 days per year with a starting date to be determined.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library and information science from accredited college or university
• Valid Texas school librarian certificate or endorsement

Responsibilities

• Direct the operation of the school library/media center and ensure it supports instructional programs
• Provide group instruction and guidance to students and library users in locating resources and using research techniques
• Work with teachers to schedule materials for classroom use and promote use of digital and print media
• Promote equity, access, and intellectual freedom and ensure 24-hour access to the online catalog and related resources
• Plan and implement an effective library program and manage acquisitions, processing, and inventory
• Assist teachers in preparing curriculum guides and bibliographies
• Develop and maintain resource files including schedules and community resources
• Involve community and parents in library activities
• Carry out student discipline per policies and regulations
• Compile budgets and reports and comply with laws and district policies
• Direct clerical aides and volunteers in library routines
