IDEA Public Schools in Austin, TX, is hiring a Food Service Specialist to prepare, portion and serve meals to students. You will cut and prepare fruits and vegetables, follow recipes, and support kitchen processes while ensuring student safety and proper behavior during meals.

The role involves cleaning duties, operating kitchen equipment, basic math for portions, and adapting quickly to schedule changes. 8-hour school-day shifts with possible overtime and Saturdays at some campuses.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma preferred but Not Required
• Experience: 1+ years of experience in a job that shows physical activity or requires you to be on your feet for multiple hours a day
• License or Certification: Food Handler’s Permit (City of County) preferred
• Ability to understand food recipes and follow kitchen processes
• Moving of cafeteria tables daily and disposal of garbage

Responsibilities

• Possess an interest or passion for working with food
• Has a basic knowledge or can quickly learn of food production processes
• Cooks, cleans, restocks and resets the kitchen for next day
• Meet the physical demands of the job (lifting, bending, walking)
• Provide service to students
• Read and execute recipes
• Operate medium to large equipment (ovens, slicer, steamer)
• Handle portioning in small trays
• Take feedback well and adapt quickly
• Work around an academic calendar
