Job summary

Southeast Polk Community School District is seeking a Head Cook for the Junior High in Pleasant Hill, IA. Hours are 6:00am-2:15pm (Wednesdays 6:15am-2:30pm) in a school kitchen environment, reporting to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services.

Responsibilities include menu execution, inventory, and HACCP compliance. Qualification requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of quantity cooking experience if possible, and the ability to obtain ServSafe certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prefer two years quantity cooking experience.
• Ability to obtain ServSafe certification and complete New Manager Training within the first six months to one year of employment.
• Ability to perform basic clerical and mathematical skills.
• Ability to prioritize, organize and complete assigned work.
• Ability to work independently or lead a group to achieve tasks and goals.
• Ability to work harmoniously with staff, students and the public.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate and participate in day-to-day school kitchen operations with efficiency, quality and cost control.
• Prepare food per written menus; estimate and order food and supplies; monitor expenditures.
• Receive orders, verify items, ensure quality and SOP compliance; store food properly.
• Maintain and review production records, inventories and reports; input data as needed.
• Oversee all production, serving, cleanup and staff assignments to meet timing and service expectations.
• Ensure serving areas are set up for efficiency and appeal.
• Inspect kitchen and dining areas daily for HACCP SOP compliance and cleanliness.
