Qualifications

• Working knowledge of large scale food preparation and cooking procedures.
• Knowledge of food values and nutrition; estimating quantities needed.
• Understanding sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
• Ability to order and store food and supplies; follow written and oral directions.
• Physical condition suitable for kitchen work; willingness to work evenings, weekends and fluctuating hours.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food in sufficient quantities to meet meal requirements and adjusts meals accordingly.
• Assists in maintaining equipment and facility to high cleanliness standards.
• Handles food following sanitary procedures.
• Times food preparation to meet meal schedules.
• Uses standardized recipes and portion control to prevent waste and ensure quality.
• Cleans, sweeps, mops and keeps kitchen area clean and safe.
• Assists in keeping inventory up-to-date.
• Accepts deliveries and checks for accuracy.
• Maintains and posts up-to-date data for records as required.
• Maintains good working relationships with kitchen staff and volunteers.
• May assist in menu planning, purchasing of food, or other managerial duties.
