Job summary

Southern View Elementary School is seeking a part‑time Kitchen Helper to support daily food service operations at the Springfield, IL campus. The role requires following standardized recipes, maintaining sanitation standards, and assisting with meal preparation and inventory.

The candidate should have prior kitchen experience, ability to handle POS systems, and be able to complete production records as required by Federal guidelines. Sanitation certification or timely acquisition is required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a kitchen helper or substitute worker.
• Willing to follow standardized recipes for quantity cooking.
• Able to complete production records as required by Federal Guidelines.
• Have computer experience or willingness to be trained on the Point of Sale Computer system for Food Service.
• Must have Food Service Sanitation Certification or acquire certificate within probation period.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standard of cooking and proper sanitation procedures in all phases of food handling and meal preparation.
• Be courteous and patient with all customers and staff.
• Prepare orders of food, supplies.
• Check all deliveries for quality and quantity and sign all delivery slips and invoices.
• Be responsible for safe operation, care and maintenance of all equipment.
• Follow proper portion control to meet nutrition and Federal guidelines
• Maintain necessary records of meals being served.
• Applicant must have a telephone number where he/she may be reached because of school emergencies.
• Be constantly alert for unsafe conditions and report them immediately, BE SAFETY MINDED
• Other duties as assigned.
