Job summary

West Ottawa High School, part of West Ottawa Public Schools, seeks a Kitchen Assistant to support daily meal service. The role is 26.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with responsibilities spanning food prep, sanitation, serving students, cash handling, and dishwashing in a fast-paced school kitchen.

Experience in school cafeterias is preferred; ServSafe certification is a plus. The position reports to the Food Director and begins in August 2026.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a school kitchen or cafeteria preferred.
• ServSafe certified preferred.

Responsibilities

• Food Preparation: light prep including breakfast and lunch; follow recipes and portion guidelines to ensure quality.
• Sanitation: adhere to proper sanitation and food safety guidelines; clean and sanitize surfaces and equipment; monitor temperatures and storage.
• Serving Students: greet students and staff; serve food according to portions; assist with dietary restrictions.
• Running Register: operate cash register; process transactions; balance drawer at end of shift.
• Dishwashing: assist with washing, rinsing, and sanitizing dishes and utensils; store properly.
