Job summary

Jennings County School District is seeking a Sub School Nurse to provide assessment, planning, and care for students' health needs, with the goal of minimizing illness-related absences and promoting a healthy school climate.

The role involves collaborating with health care providers, parents, and staff; maintaining records; conducting immunization and health screenings; developing individual health care plans as needed; and participating in crisis teams and IEP processes.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses and injuries, nutrition.
• Ability to diagnose and provide care for ill or injured students.
• Ability to convey appropriate medical information to school district staff or medical professionals to ensure proper care in the school setting.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed for position.
• Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet, Outlook).
• Ability to problem solve job-related issues.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and students with special needs.
• Ability to follow oral and written orders from supervisors and coordinate work with staff.

Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with health care providers, students' parents, school district staff and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care.
• Assists in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive school health program.
• Collects information about health development for immunization regulation compliance.
• Conducts immunization, physical examinations, and sight/hearing testing.
• Performs nursing assessment for ill or injured students and provides first aid and care.
• Maintains accurate records in accordance with law and policy.
• Develops individual health care plans when needed for IEP incorporation.
• Intervenes as guided by the care plan to promote or restore health.
• Participates in school teams (e.g., Crisis Teams, PPT, Section 504).
• Provides health education to students, parents, and staff.
