Job summary

RE-1 Valley School District in Sterling, Colorado, is seeking a Health Assistant to support daily student health services, maintain confidential health records, and respond to illnesses and injuries under the supervision of a licensed school nurse.

This full-time position with benefits provides a 158-day calendar and a four-day work week (Tuesday–Friday). Ideal candidates have strong organizational and communication skills and comfort with health data systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced school environment.
• Successful completion of the required background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and respond appropriately to student illness and injury.
• Administer medications and delegated health procedures under supervision of the District Nurse and in accordance with Colorado law and policy.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
• Monitor students with chronic health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies, and other medical needs.
• Assist with student health screenings, including vision and hearing, as directed.
• Monitor immunization compliance and assist families with required documentation.
• Communicate professionally with parents, staff, healthcare providers, and emergency responders.
• Maintain an inventory of medications, medical supplies, and first-aid equipment.
• Ensure health office documentation is complete, accurate, and timely.
• Assist with emergency response procedures and student medical emergencies.
• Support IHCPs, 504 Plans, and other student medical accommodations.
• Maintain compliance with FERPA, HIPAA (where applicable), district policies, and state regulations.
• Participate in required professional development and health-related training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the District Nurse or Building Principal.
