Kern High School District is seeking a health aide to support student health services. The role involves receiving and screening ill students, administering first aid and medications as required, and maintaining health records and immunization data.
The position requires basic clerical experience, accuracy in recordkeeping, and current CPR/First Aid certification within five months. A criminal history check is required before employment.
QUALIFICATIONS:This position requires knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, and grammar; standard office procedures and practices; the basic principles and practices of first aid; CPR. Knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations; general needs and behaviors of high school students, and student recreational activities.
Must have the ability to be flexible and willing to make changes necessary to meet the varied needs of the handicapped which is fundamental to the work; meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the required duties.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS: Receives and screens ill or injured students or staff; caresfor or refers treatment toparents and others as required via established District policies and procedures; administersCPR/FirstAidasneeded;organizes,prepares,maintains,andupdatesinformationforstudenthealthrecords,files,and emergency cards (yearly or as needed); maintainsandupdatesimmunizationrecordson everystudentat assignedsite; verifyingaccuracy and completeness in accordance with State Law; reviews student immunizationrecords and notifies students, parents, etc., of immunizationneeds to meet State requirements; contactsparentsregardingaccidentsorillnesses; preparesaccidentreportsperDistrictprotocol andmaintainsrecordsatschoolsite; assistsnursein schoolhealthprogramssuch as hearing/vision testing,immunizationscompliance, and other health related duties as needed; assistsschoolpersonnelwithathletic/sportsphysicalsuponrequest;maintainslists andfilesof studentswithmedicalandphysicalproblemsandadvisesteachersand staff of special health needs/accommodations; inventoriesandorders healthofficesupplies;performsstandardclericalfunctionssuchastyping/wordprocessing,filing,recordkeeping,and similar duties in support ofschool office operations; attendsin-servicetraining sessionsarrangedbyDistrictoffice; maintainsmedicationauthorizationformsforeachstudenttakingmedicationatschool;administersemergencymedicalinjectionsandmedications(i.e. Diastat, Epi-Penand Glucagon)in strict compliancewith doctor's orders, District policy, and in accordance with State Laws; assists/administersmedicationinaccordancewithStateLawsandkeepsarecordofmedication administration in school health office; establishes and maintains logs/records of all student visits to the health office; noting times of visit, reason, and disposition; type / word processaccurately atarate required forsuccessfuljobperformance; applyDi strict policies andprocedures tospecific situations; establishandmaintaineffectiveworkrelationships withthose contacted inthe performance of required duties.
One year of general clerical and typing/word processing experience. Some health related experience preferred.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL OBTAIN A CPR CARD AND FIRST AID CERTIFICATE WITHIN THE FIRST FIVE MONTHS.
A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION: To prepare, maintain, and update student health/immunization records and files; to administer first aid and perform other routine non-technical activities in the assistance of ill and injured students. Employees in this classification receive indirect supervision from a school site administrator withina framework of well-defined policies and procedures. This job classification performs a variety of responsible functions in assisting administration with designated health maintenance/preventativeactivities aswell asassigned clerical tasks.This job classification requires a high level of communicationskills, organizational skills, and initiative.Current CPR and first-aid certificates are required.
STARTING SALARY: $2,925.49 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 9.4 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
