Job summary

WEST MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY in Katy, Texas is looking for an Aide - Clinic to support the school nurse with routine health screenings and first aid. The role involves handling medical documentation, maintaining health records, and assisting with medications and student needs on campus.

The candidate will work under licensed nursing supervision, conduct health screenings, and help manage the clinic and referrals while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with district policies.

Qualifications

• College hours, high school diploma or GED
• Certification as a nurse aide, medical assistant or EMT is preferred
• CPR/AED certification and First Aid certification required
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
• Ability to use computer
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
• Ability to physically transfer students with limited mobility in meeting personal needs
• One year experience in health-related position preferred including contact with school-age students

Responsibilities

• Carry out first aid and emergency procedures for ill and injured students as directed by school nurse.
• Carry out specialized health care procedures as trained and directed by school nurse.
• Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures; maintain accurate log of medication dispensed.
• Assist with screening activities including measuring height and weight, testing vision and hearing, and examining spinal cord and scalp.
• Escort students to and from clinic and assist students with disabilities as necessary.
• Assist students if needed with toileting issues.
• Use Universal Precautions Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care.
• Keep nurse’s office clean and sanitary.
• Record information on student health records.
• Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required on all students.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, and records using computer.
• Make appointments for and maintain schedule for the school nurse.
• Maintain documentation of health office activities, including reportable accidents, communicable disease data, six week reporting, and referrals to school nurse.
• Maintain clinic supply inventory and request supplies as needed.
• Prepare and arrange bulletin boards, displays, models, etc.
• Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, state and local public health rules, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in health services area.
• Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality.
