Job summary

The North Polk Community School District is seeking a Groundskeeper to join the Buildings & Grounds team. This full-time, hourly role covers mowing, landscaping, equipment operation, and snow removal across district properties in the Des Moines metro area.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• College degree in turf management, horticulture, or biology preferred.
• Pesticide applicator license within 6 months of hire, Category 3OT.
• Minimum one year of related experience.
• Background check post-offer.

Responsibilities

• Maintain district grounds, lawns, sidewalks, tracks, and athletic fields through mowing, edging, watering, and seasonal cleanup.
• Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, including field marking and turf care.
• Install, inspect, repair, and maintain playground equipment, fencing, signs, and outdoor surfaces.
• Remove snow and apply ice-control materials to parking lots and walkways.
• Operate and service groundskeeping machinery and tools; ensure safe working condition.
• Assist with irrigation systems operation and maintenance; report issues as needed.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies and support seasonal mowing staff.
• Maintain supplies inventory and follow district disposal procedures.
• Promote safety and cooperate with district staff and the community.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

College degree in turf management, horticulture, or biology (preferred)

Pesticide applicator license within 6 months of hire (Cat 3OT)
