Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking an Auditor/Accountant II to perform financial audits of schools, supervise warehouse inventory audits, and assist senior auditors with oversight. The role trains new hires and supports various accounting functions within the district.

The position requires a Bachelor's in Business or Accounting, at least three years of accounting experience, and qualification to sit for the NC CPA exam. Government or school-system experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting is required.
• At least three years professional accounting experience required.
• Qualification to sit for the North Carolina CPA Examination required.
• Accounting experience in government or school systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Manage larger audit assignments focusing on audits of increased complexity and perform financial audits of schools for compliance with district policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with school principals to develop and strengthen internal controls; train school treasurers during audits to minimize findings.
• Compile detailed audit work papers and prepare audit binders reflecting results.
• Prepare and transmit formal audit letters to school principals and treasurers.
• Supervise and coordinate inventory audits of warehouses and work with inventory managers to strengthen controls.
• Assist with various accounting responsibilities and review audit binders for quality assurance.
• Train newly hired employees and guide internal auditors with scheduling and audit execution.
• Prepare detailed presentations and engage in public speaking on a regular basis.
• Attend conferences to stay current on programs and accounting policies; assist with CAFR preparation.
