Job summary

RSU 57 Massabesic School District in Waterboro, Maine is seeking a Custodian for the Line School on the 2nd shift to clean facilities, monitor safety, and support building operations.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to follow oral and written instructions, and the capacity to work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers while handling cleaning chemicals as needed. This role includes lifting, snow removal, summer cleaning, and event setup.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent is required or preferred.
• Ability to clean equipment and machines.
• Some knowledge of use and handling of cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers.
• Maintain a generally positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Cleans assigned areas of the facility, including classrooms, hallways, rest rooms, and common areas.
• Performs general maintenance tasks related to the upkeep and operation of the facility.
• See to the general security of the facility during regular shifts, making sure doors are locked and secured, etc.
• Reports to the Head Custodian (or Lead Custodian at smaller schools) and informs them of any building maintenance concerns that would require additional support from the Building Maintenance Department.
• Takes part in snow removal: shoveling, snow blowing/plowing, sand/salt treatment of walkways.
• During the summer months, performs total cleaning and general maintenance of the building.
• Observes all district policies and procedures.
• Constant lifting of 5-20 pounds.
• Frequent lifting 20 to 50 pounds.
• Constant walking and standing.
• Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, climbing and kneeling.
• Occasional crawling, sitting, stooping.
• There are times when working conditions require exposure to cold or warm temperatures for extended periods of time.
• Under supervision of Head or Lead custodian, assist in setup of Special Events.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.
